Last week in ISM I continued to build my network with professionals, and expand my knowledge within the field. After researching and assessing how chemotherapy and radiation treatments affect children long term, I learned that cancer related complications often arise after 5 years in remission. Although, throughout the past 3 decades, the number of deaths due to these complications has dramatically decreased. The improvements in science and medicine attributes to this recent trend. After completing my first research assessment, I learned how to evaluate and assess an article, rather than summarize the information already stated. I am more confident in my researching abilities, and I plan to use this confidence moving forward this year. This week I also completed my contact list of 25 different pediatric oncologist in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Throughout this process, I learned about the importance of presenting myself accordingly while contacting professionals. I hope to use this new knowledge next week, as I begin to reach out to oncologists, and request informational interviews. I am hoping to potentially be mentored by one of these contacts throughout the rest of this year. This upcoming week I plan on beginning to contact professionals and prepare for informational interviews. I am looking forward to the interview process and all the knowledge I will gain throughout it.
