This past week in ISM I had my first mentor visit at UT Southwestern Medical Center. While meeting with Dr. Callan, I have gained a wider understanding of what this year will consist of. During the meeting we were able to further discuss my final product, and begin to plan for the remainder of the school year. In addition, during the meeting were we able to discuss the process of getting me cleared to be an observer at Children's Medical Center. I am excited for this opportunity, as I will soon be able to shadow Dr. Callan as she works with patients, as well as while she works in the operating room. The knowledge I will gain through the first hand experience is something that I would never been able to gain in any other class. Furthermore, after the meeting I have a better understanding of what I should do to begin researching for my final product. Next time I meet with Dr. Callan I hope to have a wider understanding of how Osteosarcoma, and Ewingsarcoma are diagnosed, and treated. For the upcoming week in ISM, I will begin the us research, and hopefully begin taking the next steps in my mentorship.
