This part week in ISM I researched other effects of childhood cancer, such as the effect it has on siblings, and the effects of therapy dogs on patients. I was able to expand my knowledge on how childhood cancer mentally effects patients and those closely related, as well as ways of coping with the stressful time. Originally I had planned on going to a UNT field trip, where I would have been given the opportunity to visit college classes for a day. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, The field trip had to be cancelled. Although I was disappointed I would no longer be able to attend, I learned for the negative experience. I learned that sometimes things don't always go as planned especially in the professional world, although, it is best to make the most of the situation and continue to look forward to the future. This upcoming week I have an informational interview scheduled with Dr. Andrew Koh at the UT Southwestern medical center. I am looking forward to learning about his studies and the time he spends within his own lab. I will continue to reach out to more professionals in hopes of scheduling more informational interview, with the goal of finding a mentor.
